Today we picked up our white convertible Mustang! We've been really looking forward to driving a mustang, well, mostly Matthew. Ours is a 2011 model with a 3.7 litre V6 which delivers 306bhp. This is nearly enough to spin the wheels from a stopped start. For a big heavy car with a live rear axle it handles pretty well.

We started heading south on the Pacific Coast Highway. After about 20 minutes it occurred to us that we should drive to the top of California and drive the whole length instead so we turned around and drove the 8 hour trip to the top of California (on the 101 which is slightly quicker - and gave us a different view). The views must have been good because we didn't notice the time pass really.

We didn't really stop, except to put the lid down (as Alison likes to call it) until we got hungry at about 7 in the evening. Mostly we've been living on the odd snack and only eating one or two proper meals a day. Tonight we happened to stop by in a small town called Trinidad by the coast with pretty clapboard houses looking out at the coastline - apparently this has been the backdrop for many films and it is easy to see why. We ate a very tasty seafood dinner in the restaurant there. It was a very calm and relaxing place, and we could just about watch the pretty sunset out the window.

After dinner we went for a wander down on the beach and touched the Pacific ocean. We continued on up the highway 101 to a very very little place called Orick where we found a cheap motel. We had to ring a buzzer to get the owner to come out. A very nice lady of about a hundred and seventy years old and quite slow. Felt really bad about making her move. She really liked the name Matthew.
