We had to go to the embassy first thing in the morning to pick up our passports which thankfully was ready for us, however, the credit card had not arrived. A quick phone call to the Visa company and they informed us that they had not sent it yet because they need a name of someone to sign for the card at the embassy (how frustrating). After getting all the information they required THIS time, they said it should be there by the next working day which happened to be two days away as France had a public holiday the next day. Undeterred we caught the first regional train out of Paris to the Champagne region 3 hours out of the city to enjoy some of the country life and sample their famous drop. We didn't do much on the first day out there except walk around the town, find some food and research where would be the best place to try some Champagne.

We were pretty lucky that most of the major cellars were within walking distance to our hostel. Unlike Australian vineyards where the cellars are on the wine makers estate, the process happens underground in hundreds of miles of chalk tunnels scattered throughout the town. These were made a couple of hundred of years ago and have since been extended to what there is today. The only thing visible of the cellars are the huge mansions and factories that are on the surface. We spend the whole day going from one champagne house to another. They all gave you tastes with the tour. Our favourite being the Piper-Heidsieck house which was informative and gave you three glasses of the bubbly at the end of the tour. Pommery was also very nice and you got two glasses and G.H. Martel and Co. was a smaller house but was also very nice. By the end of the day we were considerably happier.

Today was just a relax day for Donna and Jasmin who just went window shopping all day. Matt however had to go back into Paris to pick up his credit card from the embassy which took the better half of the day. The guards at the embassy almost know Matt by name. On Matts return he needed a well deserved drink so we went to an Irish Bar of all places and drank far to much beer before stumbling home.

On our way back to Paris we stopped at a town called Epernay which is home to the famous Moet and Chandon Champagne house. Going there was well worth the visit. The house is beautiful and the tour was very informative. Best of all we got a couple of glasses of their lovely drink. Back in Paris we stayed at the same hostel as before because it was close to the train station that would take us to DISNEYLAND!!!! Donna is more excited than she should be.
