My first match I again struggled with nerves and undue pressure and played possibly the worst match of the last few years. Then amazingly in the doubles I played extremely well and enjoyed the partnership with Italian Gianluca. I received good advice to read a book before a match and this relaxed me. Also, I witnessed an at first funny, but then rather ugly confrontation in another doubles match. I think this was a turning point for me to take tennis a little bit seriously but not too serious.
Saturday night was the players dinner and party whichwas fin
Monday I visited two cities, Bruges and Gent (very novel for an aussie to be in three major cities in half a day) which are 30 mins away from eachother. Bruges is beautiful but swarming with tourists, I am one of them though so I took a nice canal cruise and had Belgian hot dark chocolate.
Gent was again a beautiful city with less tourists so It was a bit more pleasant being there. The buildings are really nice as the photos show.
Yesterday I spent the day wandering around Brussels. It is a lively city, everything is in dutch and french and the food is good. I met up with Robert's friend Gabriel from Heidelberg and his friend Anthony and we sampled some beers and cheeses. I had an amazing cherry beer called Kriec which I really want to find in Australia when I get back. It was a nice evening.
This morning I had breakfast in the grand place, apparently the most beautiful in europe and yes it is beautiful. There is a flower carpet laid out on the place which you would have liked Mum. So I now am heading to Zurich, Switzerland for yet another tennis tournament.
