31st July 2010 – Day 1

Well that was an emotional start to my travels!! Having spent most of the day sat on my arse or queuing I finally arrived in Honduras. Flight AA057 left Heathrow an hour late at about 11am, not the best start sat on a plane in its gate for an hour. Arrived in Miami at 4pm local time, a cool 11 hours stuck on a cramped plane in the middle seat…brilliant! Wouldn't recommend them for anyone thinking of coming over to be honest, staff were miserable and films were crap that coupled with the delay (apparently due to the French!) wasn’t ideal. Suppose you get what you pay for as they say. Landed in Miami to 33 degrees heat, sweltering! Had to queue for over an hour to get through passport control, but I was finally granted access to the US of A. The guy on the desk did give me a bit of advice about Honduras though, apparently don’t eat steak, it’s not beef, its Iguana!!! Rest of the journey was pretty smooth, only saving grace with all those delays was that I didn’t have to sit around Miami airport for as long as I thought I would, every cloud. Boarded flight AA0949 to San Pedro Sula at 7.30 only for another delay, this time with the planes PA system, guess lady luck wasn’t on my side today. Finally arrived in Honduras at 9pm, and after a quick taxi (which had been put on by the hotel) I arrived at my bed for the night. Pretty cosy and with the aircon, a complete winner. Morning call booked for 4.30am ready for a taxi picking me up at 5 to take me to the bus stop, another day of travelling awaits.

That all followed an emotional 'in a bit’ to the parents and Katie, not goodbye as I’ll soon be back, we all know how fast time flies. Not good with moments like them so thought it best just to walk straight through to customs instead of going for the usual breakfast at the terminal with the rents. Definitely going to miss everyone back home, but hopefully I’ll keep myself busy and meet some sound people, with skype and email no one will be able to get rid of me anyway, unlucky!!!

Gunna try keep this diary up to date every day, will see how long it lasts….
