We arrived to Sydney much earlier than expected after our pre-sunrise flight and were sad to see it pouring rain when we landed. We parked our bags in the train station locker and headed off for our rainy journey around Sydney. We loved our time in Sydney when we visited 1 ½ years ago but didn't have a very good start to our time here in the huge storm. Since we had gotten little sleep, we decided to get our legs moving and walked a few miles around town. When the rain let up we would walk quickly from the covered area to shelter under the tree. We were pretty drenched by the end of the day, and enjoyed finding refuge in this strange asian mall at Paddy's Market where we emailed while the store blared a Japanese rock band...she started to get confused on which country we were in.

That night we had a wonderful dinner at Sean & Renee Christensen's house, we met them through Danny and Emily Kapic. It was an encouraging night of Christian fellowship as we discovered many shared interests and neat connections to people in the bay area and Seattle with them. We had a wonderful time hanging with their very cute kids Hannah and Liam.

All week we had the pleasure of staying at Arthur MacCullagh's house in a suburb of Sydney in Carlingford. We met him through a friend of Chetan's he knew from his church in India. Arthur is a retired pastor at the local Baptist church here in town. He was a missionary for many years in New Guinea and we have really enjoyed our time in his home hearing his stories and learning about life in Australia. After a week here we are really starting to feel at home and are sad to leave the comforts of his home to hit the road again.

Arthur has a student living with him named John who is attending the Sydney Missionary & Bible College. John was a missionary in China and we have enjoyed spending time with him as well. It turns out that he is planning to be in China the same time that we are so, Lord willing, we are going to hook up and travel a bit together. We went to school with him one day posing as students and got to hear a few speakers at a roundtable discuss the different organizations they work for. It was an encouraging morning and a good way to start off our trip hearing about people serving all over the world with people in need.

Later that day we hit Bondi Beach and loved the sun and sand on our feet. Matt ended up getting a quick two day flu and was off his feet for a couple days. We had some quiet times at the house and were grateful to have somewhere that was peaceful for him to get better. This leads us into Easter weekend...on the next entry.
