We first had buffet breakfast downstairs in the large breakfast room. We were the only two in it (until we were about to leave). There was a selection of cereals, rolls, meats, cheese, yoghurts, and sweet pastries. We didn't need lunch until almost tea time that day...
Our first destination of the day was Prague Castle. To get to this we had to walk under Old Town Bridge Tower (A), over Charles Bridge (B), under the Mala Strana Bridge Tower (C)and through Mala Strana (Old Town) (D) itself, including Malostranske Namesti (Lesser Town Square) (E).
(A) Part of Prague's old fortification system, the Old Town Bridge Tower is one of the most beautiful Gothic towers in Europe and heralds the entrance to the Old Town from Charles Bridge (we started off in Old Town)
(B) One of Prague's most romantic sights, a stroll on Charles Bridge presents fine views of Prague Castle, the Vltava River and many of Prague's famous riverside attractions. Charles Bridge connects the Old Town to Mala Strana.
(C) Mala Strana Bridge Tower marks the main entry point to Mala Strana for tourists seeking out the attractions of this beautiful baroque quarter.
(D) Mala Strana (Lesser Town) clusters around the foot of Prague Castle. Most tourists climb up to the castle along the Royal Way of Mostecka & Nerudova. It's uphill all the way...
(E) Malostranske Namesti (Lesser Town Square) has been the hub of Mala Strana since the 10th century. The stunning St. Nicholas Church dominates the centre of the square. All around are a mixture of official buildings, restaurants, shops and other attractions.
