Where I stayed
Hi Folks,
We spent the last 36 hours in the Cinque Terre--a rugged and rustic portion of the Italian Riviera. We stayed in Vernazza in a room built by a local stone mason and managed by his American girlfriend. It was a great little place tucked between tiny hillside gardens and small groves of lemon and orange trees (see photos). The five towns are connected by rail, ferry, and a series of hiking trails that course through Cinque Terre national park. We spent most of our time in Vernazza, but managed to at least briefly see all five. The landscape is amazing with terraced hillsides teaming with grape vines, citrus orchards, and cactus. It was a great place to visit, but, in large part due to the Easter holiday, it was overrun by local tourists.
