This morning dawned clear and sunny though some possible fire smog started infiltration the valley spreading throughout the day. Regardless, we set off up the Hunter Creek Trail - my old stomping ground, and made it up to the clearing in about an hour - which isn't too bad for our sea level lungs! In the meadow, we were treated to beautiful vistas and a gentle slope - just what I'd planned for our first major hike. Jonathan apparently had other ideas and suggested we get a little more elevation, so we found a trail called Sunnyside which branched off the Hunter creek trail up another slope. It was very pretty and we ended up adding about another spectacular 3 miles to about 10,000 feet.

The round trip hike took about 6 hours with a stop for lunch underneath the falling aspens which was magical, so I am now considerably more pooped than I anticipated! We are consequently having a mellow night - especially since its the finals of the So You Think You Can Dance! What a season....
