Today was our last full day on the Garden Island of Kauai, so sad to say.  We decided to visit the family's favorite snorkeling beach in the morning and return  to Hideaways Beach.  The hike down was not as bad this time, as the trail was drier.  The beach access is between the pool and tennis courts at a condo development in Princeville, and the beach access lot holds 9 cars.  We arrived early enough to snag spot #9, with some artful parking by Bob.  Again the snorkeling at Hideaways was great.  We watched the same type of eel swim through the coral, which was cool.  The hens and roosters and their chicks sneak around the beach, like most of the beaches in Kauai.  We had a nice morning at Hideaways Beach, and hated leaving.

After a mid day stop at the Smoothie fruit stand, we visited Kilauea Lighthouse -  well, only on the outskirts. Who wants to spend $25 and not be able to enter the lighthouse?!!  Especially since that would dip into the smoothie fund!  We stopped at the bakery and bought some goodies for later, had the final hurricane hot dogs for lunch, and got our travel plans in order.  We decided to try a beach that we had not been too this year, but had in the past, so we chose Larsen's Beach not far from us.

The beach guide book said it was an easy and sunny meander down 300 yards to the beach.  There were 3 separate trails, all with the same ease.  NOT SO!  we took the middle trail which was tough with rocks, tight spots, slippery dried mud and with Yankee and Cowboy fans on their way up  (of course I had to comment on their shirts and hats!  I mean who really wears a Tony Romo shirt!).  The beach was long and pretty, but too rough to swim and snorkel.  In fact, they had a sign at the beginning of the trail listing the number of deaths due to drowning.  We found the right trail up, which was very easy!  Then returned to the smoothie fruit stand for the 2nd time today, but our final visit!  We had dinner in Kapa'a where earlier in the day they held a Tahitian Dance competition in the town, so it was packed!  Followed up the day with ice cream and farkel!

We tried to get the real estate company to allow us to stay at the house until 1pm, but the insisted we must check out at 10am, even though no one is arriving at the house until Monday.  Our flight from Kauai to Honolulu is at 4pm, so we have several hours to find something to do tomorrow!  No worries, we are in Hawaii!!!  We will arrive home at 11:30am Monday.  Thanks for reading our updates!  We had a great time in Kauai, enjoying the scenery, beaches, and company.  Who knows when we will make it back to Kauai, as it is hard to get to from the East Coast.  But we do think its the prettiest and most Hawaiian of all the islands.  As they say, its the Hawaii people think they are going to see when they go to Hawaii!!  MAHOLA from Kauai!
