No one was on the flight to London. I havd an entire row to myself, as did everyone on the plane. If I had to guess, there were only 60 people one the 777! United lost $$$ that night.

I arrived early Thursday, took the heathrow express like everyone recommended and got to the hotel as bob was leaving for the day. The hotel is really nice. It's the chesterfield Mayfair, which I found on TripAdvisor (Currently ranked 8th for all the London hotels). It's a boutique hotel with mostly business people. The neighborhood id very nice and upscale. Mike and pit stayed in this area in October.

After breakfast, I sought out directions and walked the few blocks to Green Park and then made my way to buckingham Palace. Changing of the guard was to happen at 11:30. During the wintr, it is only done every another day and only on odd numbered days. Walked around a littler since I was early. Walked down to St James Park, took photos, and returned to the fence at the palace at 10:30. Soon the masses joined me! I don't know if I am going to complain about Americans anymore, because even if we can be rude, we at least have the notion of "personal space"! Lots of pushy non-English speakers from all over. Pushing me into the gated fence, placing there cameras over my head and into my face to go along with their bags jamming into my back! I enjoyed the ceremony itself, but it is not a memorable as Changing of the Guard at Arlington Ceremony.

After it ended, I walked down the street from the Palace to Trafalgar Square where I hopped on the hop on hop off bus. I did the entire circuit do I could get my bearing and see as much as I could. The top portion of the bus was partially covered, but it was cold. I saw the eye, Westminster Abbey, Tower of London, St Paul's Cathedral, Tower Bridge, all the top sights! I walked back to the hotel, had a coffee, and planned what to do tomorrow. I am alone tonight for dinner as Bob has a work dinner. He has to work tomorrow too so on my own. Thinking about doing one of the London Walks, maybe the walking tour to Westminster Abbey.

Sorry about the pushy people, but glad you got to see so much on a sunny day!

Hey Maryellen - a very productive first day - Mayfair is beautiful! Don't forget the National Gallery or Albert and Victoria Museum. It will keep you warm inside!! You are missing a huge winter blizzard in New England...the weather has GOT to be better in London!! Have a wonderful time and keep the blogs going
