We had breakfast today amoung a group of French tourists. Say what you want about Americans and their manners, but those Frenchmen were pushy and kind of rude! All in the name of some chocolate croissants!! Luckily, I could push over a few of them and grab the final 2 croissants! Yesterday, it was battleing the Aussie tour at breakfast in a 10 room hotel in Lucca! Note to self - next trip, don't stay at hotels that host tour groups!
We drove 3 hours from our hotel in Levanto, driving through many mountain tunnels (& some people know who much I hate those kind of tunnels), and arrived in Verona before lunch. We returned the car and walked the several blocks to the Hotel Romeo e Guiletta (where else could you stay in Verona?). We started our tour in the Roman Arena, where Verona still holds an annual summer opera series due to the famous accoustics. Its amazing to think they hold opera concerts in a sight where thousands of years ago gladiators fought to the death!
We ran into many school groups, some from Germany and France, not to mention Itlay. Like everywhere else, Verona was crowded. But the weather was perfect! We did the necessary tourist trips, and visited Juilette's house, her famous balacony, Romeo's house, and the did some shopping. We walked down to the river, which was beautiful! We have seen many different cities in Italy, and I can see why people live here! All the cities/villlages have been lovely!
Funny thing - Bob has been carrying in his wallet a freyed post-it note he uses every night: "Mi porto il conto, per favore' "! He still can not pronounce it all!! And whips it out every night!
Visiting Verona was rather restful, as it had less "must sees". We saw very few Americans! Tomorrow, we take the train from Verona to Venice, which should take about 2 hours. We look forward to seeing Venice, the Grand Canal, our "splurge" hotel, and our final stop on what Bob calls our "sampling of Italy" trip!

Latest update - Had dinner dinner in Piazza, with band playing in square.  Then walked down to river to see ancient bridge at night.  Posted photo of bridge, video of band in piazza, and video from yesterday in Cinque Terre train station,  ENJOY!!!

Great idea that Bob had, with the Italian post-it cheat sheet. I think Maria told you that when we were in Rome, at the end of one meal I asked the server to bring me the oven. The next night I asked for the corpse "s'il vous plait!" Such a rube.

The picture of the bridge at night looks like a postcard!
