We are very fortunate to have my friend, Sandy's family take such good care of us while we were in Malta. The family is extremely generous and treated Jeff and I as members of their family. Ensuring that we experienced all the great things of Malta – Karl took us around to visit and see the many towns and villages of Malta. Malta may be an island with over 316 km of land area but it is densely populated with a population of over 360,000. Whenever we drove across the island, at times it felt like a bigger place with its towns and villages blending into each other. We must have logged several kilometers that week as we traversed across the island on the number of windy roadways that covers the area. This could be another reason why Malta may have felt bigger than it is – I don’t think we ever took the same road twice!! Despite Karl’s best efforts in making sure we saw as much as we could of Malta, there are still parts of the country that we still did not discover (more to see and do the next time we come back)
In addition to the many places we visited, we also had the chance to sample the specialties of Malta. Mary (Sandy, James and Karl’s Mom) is a fabulous cook who puts a lot of love in every dish she makes. We were spoiled completely with the home cooked meals that Mary prepared for us each day. Karl who also loves to cook participated in the cooking frenzy that occurred the week we were in Malta. Jeff and I were treated to several varieties of seafood, meats and desserts – we will definitely need to go on a diet (the food was just too good and tempting not to indulge in!).
Thank you again to Karl, Mary, Charles, James and Chrysilla for welcoming us into your home and taking such good care of us. We will remember our time in Malta with very fond memories and hope to come back soon!
