Well here I am in Hoi An, a happy little vegemite ( boy I would love some now ! ). Today I went swimming in the South China Sea, twas beautiful. Deep green water, nice temp, small waves, fine white sand. We got here yesterday after driving across a spectacular pass, with the sea on our left. Came down at China Beach where the French invaded Vietnam and later the Yanks. Stopped to climb up the Marble mountains big chunks of rock sticking out of the plain. There were lots of marble factories below and many huge and impressive carvings as well as little trinkets.
Got into Hoi An early arvternoon and installed in another beautiful hotel with swimming pool. No backpacker hostels on this trip. Very impressed with this town, it is quaint and old worldy and very laid back. Weather has been sunny , not too humid, and we walked around this morning seeing some of the sights. Yesterday I just wandered round the narrow srteets and discovered the markets, river and jettty, Had a coffee watching them load people and motor bikes on barges to transport to other side of river. The coffee here in Vietnam is to die for, absolutely fabulous. It picks you up by the ears.
Just a word about Christmas. I am amazed that here in Vietnam they are going in for it in a big way, decorations in many shops, Christmas trees and Santa Clauses abound. Guess you can't get away from it !
