April 13th

Today was our last day in Rome, so we decided to see as much as we could before the day ended.

We started out by going returning to St. Peter's square.  This time though, the goal was to visit the inside of the Basilica and also to climb to the top of the cupola or dome.  When we arrived, we opted to do the dome first since we knew that would take a lot of energy.

While there was an elevator to get to the base of the dome, actually getting to the top requires one to climb about 8-10 minutes worth more of stairs.  While you might be out of breath after this climb, the view is well worth it, as from the dome's vantage point you can see for Rome miles in every direction!

Next we entered the Basilica of St. Peter itself, and this was one of the highlights of the day!  The sheer massiveness of the church was enough to take your breath away in awe of its splendor.
It is beyond imagination how much time and energy the artisans and others had put forth to design, create, and erect these masterpieces.  Truly something to see at least once in your lifetime!

Next we stopped for a quick espresso doppio (double-shot) to re-energize ourselves for the remainder of the afternoon.
We moved on to see the Trevi Fountain, where Jo and I threw coins in like the rest of the tourists do.  The place was slammed with so many tourists, and it even has a Benetton outlet right in front of it!  LOL

Finally, we set off to see the famed ancient ruins of Rome...namely...
the Colosseum and the Forum.
Not as impressive as St. Peter's, but still something that we appreciated as it is not so often that one gets to sit amongst the ruins of the ancient Roman empire.

After a long day, we sat down to a dinner at one of the piazza's of Rome.

The spaghetti carbonara(egg and prosciutto), and the
spaghetti with clams at the Taverna del Corso were delicious!

Tomorrow we check out of the Julius Caesar B&B, leave Rome, and move on to Sorrento in the Southern region of Campania!

Ciao!

Hi Beno,

You can do plenty of things in Rome with 2 days. Let's correspond directly on this. So as not to create too much noise in the comments, please click where it says Marv.n.Jo, and send us a direct private message so we can discuss it more at length. :)
