I visited with Md. Imamus Sultan, Managing Director of Grameen Health Care Services Ltd in Dhaka and then went to the Grameen Eye Care Hospital in Bogra and was hosted by Mahbubul Haque the Manager of the Hospital.

Located on the same piece of land as Grameen Danone, Grameen Eyecare Hospital is also a Social Business.  Started in 2006 with the new facility opened in the last year - the Hospital is already breaking even.

The hospital performs complete eye exams and eyeglass sales/fitting with it primary business being cataract surgery.  The destitute are provided cataract surgery for free.  The price of cataract surgery price ranges from $19.25 for basic surgery, lenses and overnight for the poor to $276 for their premium program.

There are different recovery rooms ranging from rooms where those who recover are not used to being in beds and therefore in these rooms they recover on the floor (they might fall off of a bed if they were provided them) to semi-private rooms.

They have three eye doctors and a staff of 26 to serve the unmet needs of their area.  A second Eye Care Hospital is in development with plans for many more.
