Where I stayed
Brij Mohan wears several hats. He left the Banking Industry four years ago to do what he can to serve the Development Sector. He is 64 years old and most of his work is done as service - without compensation. The first card he gave me has a title "Development Consultant' and the back includes some of the details - which is that he is Chairman of Access Development Services, Chairman Microsave India (which is located in Lucknow and I will be visiting and blogging on later in the week), Director M-Cril - a MFI rating service, and Policy Advisor to Sa-Dhan who I had just visited (see previous blog).
I shared with Brij about Social Businesses and MicroFranchising and "Light Up a Billion Lives" - all of which he was very responsive and interested in learning more and he will be connecting me with Vipin Sharma the CEO of Access Development Services - where there is likely to be further interest. Unfortunately, it does not fit into my schedule to get together with Vipin on this trip.
Rupaal had put together this visit. Niranjan later told me what I had already learned - that Brij is a very special person. He has been a great support to Niranjan and Nirantara and plays a major role in India's development programs.
