Mathew is the Founding Executive Director of Sa-Dhan which is "The Association of Community Development Finance Institutions." for all of India.

Sa-Dhan plays a pivotal role within the entire Microcredit programs in India as they are a major driving force in helping those working in the area of micro finance improve their credibility with the banking community and government through leading in a focus on "Core Values and Voluntary Mutual Code of Conduct for Micro Finance Institutions."

"Sa-Dhan's mission is to build the field of community development finance in India to help its member and associate institutions to better serve low-income households, particularly women, in both rural and urban India, in their quest for establishing stable livelihoods and improving quality of life."

Sa-Dhan provides major support, education, statistics and networking to Micro Finance Institutions.

Sa-Dhan leads the Micro-Finance sectors lobbying and work in trying to get both Federal and State governments to create laws that are most conducive to allowing MFI's to move to the necessary scale to serve the 400 million poor in India.  Government restrictions and actions are the primary challenge to this work.

Mr. Titus indicated that the growth of micro finance is likely to slow down for the next year or so as the banking system reduces the availability of capital in its attempt to reduce the inflation rate that has been growing out of control - now in the 13% range.  Mathew states that inflation plays a major role in hurting the opportunities for poor to escape poverty.
