Where I stayed
Today I visited with Jayshree Vyas, Managing Director of SEWA (Self Employed Women's Association) Bank. Jayshree had been a financial analyst for a bank until she joined SEWA in 1986.
Ela R. Bhatt was the Bank's founder and wrote a book "We Are Poor but So Many - the story of self-employed women in India." Jayshree gave me a copy of this very interesting book.
SEWA has created a holistic approach to helping women achieve independence through microcredit SHG loans, health programs, education programs, legal support and many other programs.
SEWA has 1 million cooperative members, 350,000 depositors and 150,000 borrowers.
