Hassan took Niranjan and I to a Sugar Cane Cooperative meeting outside of Hyderabad where we attended an example of their monthly meetings and then visited with a number of them in one of the Sugar Cane fields.
During the cooperative meeting, one of the people stood to share about what the cooperative means to him and for a moment it looked to me like my father - only when dad was younger and fairer skin then this man. The wave of his hair and the gentleness of his smile kept making me think of dad. When my dad graduated from college in Agronomy - his first job was to be a crop management consultant to farmers - doing very much what Hassan is doing.
Hassan is another one of those special young men in their thirties who have felt a calling to help others - and in this case farmers. He had a very bad auto accident a bit over a year ago and is carrying on his work between the nine surgeries that he has had.
On the way back they took me to a Shrine and then to fields where female workers were weeding the fields.
