We left Kapit on the 7:30 am express ferry, 2.5 hrs non-stop to Sibu, even colder air-con than when going there and too cool on the river in the morning to sit outside so we were glad it was so fast before we froze solid.
In Sibu we only had an hour or so before we needed to go to the airport so we went to get a picture or two of the big pagoda at the temple on the water front, we thought it would take 10 minutes ….. until we got there and was welcomed by someone we took to be a Buddhist monk but turned out to be a toaist caretaker who was only too enthusiastic to tell us all about his interpretation of Taoism and Ying-Yang. He was very entertaining and we went on to having Sarah shake a fortune stick and a visit to the top of the pagoda for the view.
We came away after over an hour with numerous souvenir printouts and even a pot for sand to stick our incense sticks in, and all without any request for payment of any kind! Lots of fun.
