Marty - No time to waste in Grande Anse, we had to get going. Norman and Alison wanted to get to Saint Maarten before the Hurricane season really got going. Saint Maarten is THE place in the Caribbean to shop and they wanted a flat screen TV, iPod, camera, oh and some things for the boat. Saint Maarten would normally be out of reach for them as they usually had to get back to St Lucia to drop off and/or pick up new passengers however this time they had a crew who mostly were on for at least 3 weeks and that brought them just enough time to get up there. This however meant more sailing and less relaxing than usual and generally most of the crew were good with this as we would see more of the Islands. Simon and Cliff would have to make their own way back to St Lucia but those risks where stated on the website and no-one was complaining.

The best way to get north in time lead us to have a short trip to the northern part of Martinique sleep then set off early for Dominica. We would have sailed up there straight away from the previous day but there are many things that influence routes and where you can clear customs on an island easily is up there with one of the more important ones.

The stay in Saint Peirre happened to co-inside with the first World Cup games, yes much to Ness's dismay and some of the others on the boat, the World Cup was going to play a part in our Caribbean Cruise, mostly championed by me. We legged it to a bar to watch the opening matches which turned out to be disappointing draws (SA vs Mex 1-1 Urg vs Fra 0-0). The Island being French, was dead, everyone was watching the France game.

After watching these we amused ourselves around town mostly looking at the ruins and museum to do with the fact that the whole town was killed by the volcano that lies near by in 1902. It was in fact the same volcano that Andy, Simon, Ness and I climbed last week. Actually not everyone died, one prisoner who was in solitary confinement survived, ironic eh.
