Awoke in this lovely cabin in the woods and Munchie made an excellent breakfast of eggs on toast. It was so nice to sit the kitchen area and have a good breakfast in space and peacefulness. We decided to hang around the cabin and read/slob. It was wonderful - there is no-one around, albeit a gang of three mixed dogs wandered along the road below us at one point - all on their own. Our cabin is perched on this steep slope via a square ledge which has been cut out of the mountain with the wood deck at the back around 20ft off the ground.

Around 1pm we headed back into Pigeon Forge and drove to Dollywood which is an adventure park apparently - we didn't stop and got into town for some provisions. Seems there must be an old car convention in town...there are loads of canvas chairs on the roadside and we assume there is a drive-by each evening and these seats are "reserved". Occasionally there were people sitting by their cars - many of which looked for sale.

There are also loads of Malls around the area - seems the place is now a huge low-end tourist destination with Atlanta only 2 hours away....we're glad we're not staying in town.

We love the cabin so much we headed back and just hung around enjoying the idyllic setting. About 5pm MJ was over by the "back" door (the only external door actually) which has a window on the top half, when he caught a glimpse of a large black dog (not more "wild" dogs surely?) which turned out to be a black bear ambling around. There is a dustbin with no lid outside on our door porch which we've been leaving empty (we didn't want animals rooting thru) and he came up the three steps and is just outside out door about three feet away. MJ decides that running and hiding under the bed is the best policy while Munchie calmly turned the door bolt...at which the bear ran off, scampering up the steep hill behind the cabin and other than a backward glance from him that was the last we saw of him.

An excellent burger meal in the evening using some fresh lean beef patties we'd brought plus a bottle of wine rounded of a truly relaxing day.
