Kathy had to attend Michelle's orthodontic appointment 60 miles south in Alexandria, so after another excellent breakfast the remaining three of us headed out in Huck's new GMC 2500 pickup to Dan's 300-acre ranch about 20 miles away where we set up for fishing on a bridge over a large pond on the property watched on by 2 bulls and 4 oldish horses.

We'd never been fishing before and Huck soon had a worm on the end of a hook and Munchie got going. Almost immediately she'd caught a smallish fish which had to be released. This set the scene for the rest of the 2 hour expedition. Hook into water and immediate action ending mostly in the fish getting fed and us having to re-thread a worm. MJ tried his luck at bass fishing which involved sending a fake orange thing with a hook on the bottom out into the lake and then reeling it back in hoping that a bass would confuse it for lunch. Suffice to say we didn't catch anything all day that way.

Initially Huck was busy baiting for Chrissy as the fish seemed very good at stealing the worm and leaving the hook. After a while, to prove his masculinity, MJ felt he should let Huck do some bass fishing for himself and had a go at baiting. All went well until the worm felt the hook and (not unreasonably) started wriggling. At this point MJ had a screaming fit and undertook what he would later describe as a Scottish jig but Huck would state was actually a "school-house sissy" dance. Huck was right of course.

Further attempts produced fewer fits until MJ ended up as Munchies hook-loader. We carried on pleasantly "feeding the fish" in hot, humid but fortunately cloudy weather. Scores on the doors....MJ - nuttin', Huck - nuttin', Munchie - 2 large and 1 small bream. The discussion then turned on who was to benefit and it was determined that it would be Maw unless Kathy objected.

We headed back to the ranch via the "Red Ribs" which was this kinda run-down barren shack place which did excellent ribs. We were on take-away as it was too early to eat and to while away the time MJ read the local free-ads paper only to find an advert for a new 6-bed mobile home of 1300 sq ft (or roughly the size of our house) for 30k delivered. WHAAAAAAT!!!???!! OK it's a mobile home but hell.... it's new and paid for so what chew saying?

Interesting sums were being done as we drove home for a shower before John & Sandy (nope...not some Grease mix-up but some friends of Hucks) turned up with coconut pie for us and a quick chat. Soon thereafter we got stuck into the ribs and pork. Yummy.

Two three-way games of dominos then followed where all that can be said is that MJ didn't achieve first or second places in either game. Huck won both times!!

Kathy got back about 10pm having waited 2 hours from the appointment time to see the dentist with Michelle (we think the NHS is bad but how d'ja fancy paying the chap huge sums directly only to have him keep you waiting?). He's going to take Michelle's wisdom teeth out tomorrow - so Kathy has to return which she wasn't expecting.

Neither of could get to sleep - we reckon it must be that we actually got some good coffee here as opposed to the thin, pale stuff we normally get in hotels.
