We saw Huck and Kathy off in their massive Yukon (the guy also owns a GMC 2500 pickup - "for when he might need it") on their way to Wichita Falls TX which must be 8 hours plus driving.

We headed back into Santa Fe and while MJ sat in the Plaza listening to a rock and roll band and reading his book about a 23yr old who undertook the Oregon Trail with a few other in 1846, Munchie toured the shops. She reported that the Indians sat around the Plaza under the cloisters seemed much cheaper than the shops and we looked at a few things together.

MJ wanted to go back to a leather coats shop called Overland Outfitters where we both enjoyed the wonderful coats and jackets they had. MJ brought an excellent fur hat for Munchie -pictures no doubt to follow.

We took lunch in this enclosed courtyard with a massive tree in the middle and other smaller trees/umbrellas around which made for shaded cool environment while we ate an excellent meal and Munchkin had a sangeria.

Back to the hotel where it was by now getting hot and an hour's snooze was quickly followed by the telephone ringing - it was Huck!!!! It was about 4pm and he'd got to Amarillo, TX. It was our first phone call of the trip and we were thrilled. He reported that there was nothing between Sante Fe and Amarillo and we'd do best just to drive it thru. Great to hear from him - they've kinda turned the trip around for us along with the heat calming down. It's just nice to talk to some other people for more than 5 minutes and to know that we're going to keep in contact.

MJ took some pool time which was nice and then we re-planned the remainder of our trip. We're going to dash thru Texas/Oklahoma and spend some time in the Arkansas Ouachita Mountains before heading south to spend some time with Huck in Louisiana before heading into Tennesse and then North Carolina's Smokey Mountains.

Seems like we've got lots to look forward to and better weather/cheaper hotels.

Finally - congratulations to Luke on getting AAB in his A Levels - he's off to Loughborough to study Economics and seems to be looking forward to it.
