After last night's excitement we set off south to discover the delights of the Oregon coast - and they are lovely. The scenery is like "super-enhanced green" UK - lots of huge very green trees. This is probably explained by the fact that they gets plenty of rain. The day was kinda gray and we didn't get much sun all day.

The coastal road 101 is slightly inland but you occasionally get glimpses of the Pacific. We took a shore road and ended up in Oceanview which is a small little cove with houses up in the hills around. We had a coffee overlooking the sea and it reminded us of the Gulf Coast.

Then we went down to the sea and walked along the beach - it was empty and very lovely. At the end of the beach there was concrete tunnel which led to a cave-tunnel and then into a "secret" cove. There was loads of driftwood which is protected by law.

We drove on down the coast and eventually reached Pacific City with a lovely micro-bar/restaurant on the beach where MJ managed to get a $6 tray-deal of 7 mini beers. We also tried the shark taco - but the taste seemed hidden by the sauce.

The bay had a huge rock sticking out of the sea and was very scenic - so much so that they were building 18 "cottages" on the sea-front ....cost?...from $79,000. Not bad until you find out it was a three week per annum timeshare. We worked out that each cottage was going to generate $2m - way over what it is worth. We did another calculation and reckoned the interest on (say) $100k would be $5k - which would give you a fantastic 3 weeks accommodation anywhere you like. Amazing - who buys these things?

We pressed on and found Lincoln City which is a huge long beach with loads of hotels/apartments along it. We drove down to the beach road and got a "street-side" room in an independent - but it had a great lounge overlooking the Pacific. MJ did some blogging and then we went for a long walk down the beach.

We asked if there was a good restaurant nearby and walked to the recommendation. It was excellent - the salmon was top class. Best meal we've had all trip.

Typical accountants
Obviously a few months away from work has not changed your accounting brains. Some people would say it was worth the price for the scenery alone !!

Glad all is still going well.
