Woke up to overcast skies and headed for the Harry S Truman Presidential Museum. We were pretty much the only people there. Initially Truman came to office via the Vice-Presidency on the death thru stroke of Roosevelt in early 1945, but he went on to be re-elected, despite the polls predictions, in 1948.

He saw the surrender of Germany followed by Japan after authorising the two atomic bombs, he then went on to dealt with Civil War in Greece, the Cold War initiation, recognition of Israel and the Korean War. So a tricky 6 years. He was a keen advocate of peace and felt that countries under tyranny were a threat to that peace.

We then went to see Truman's house in downtown where met a special forces soldier heading for Washington State with his family and retriever dawg. He reckoned he'd been in Afganistan working with French Special Forces - wierd. He also reckoned that Mad Max Bush is going to bomb the Iranian nuclear sites before he leaves office - watch this space.

Finally we went to the local goal where Frank James (brother of Jesse) had been incarcerated - and very solid it was as well. Seems as though the Union enacted a code which required everyone to live within 5 miles of Union controlled towns to prevent farmers from supporting rebels - or be shot. That didn't go down too well with the farmers because they couldn't earn a living/plant crops etc plus they wanted to support the rebels. There is a famous painting of the impact of this law.The James family had some bad experiences with the law and became outlaws living by robbing banks.

We also had our lunch in Clinton's Soda Fountain which was where Truman started work earning $3 in his first week. Most amazing toffee/nut sundae which made us both feel sick afterwards.

After a quick re-fresh at the hotel we went to see Superman3 (it does what it says on the tin) for $6 each and an excellent steak meal in Longhorn.
