Hey everybody!

I arrived yesterday morning at Kelowna. I traveled by bus for 6 hours to get there. Canada is big, alright! I am staying with a Dutch family, friends of Sanne. They are the Looman's: Hans, Mathilda and their three children Jasper, Jeanine and Louise. They have a really nice house, with a gorgeous view on Okanagan lake and the rolling mountains behind.

Yesterday I walked around Goat's peak with Mathilda. They had a forest fire in the summer of 2009, so all the trees are dead. But you see the signs of nature that it is recovering. On Goat's peak we found countless tracks of deer. Mathilda says there are cougars around. Which is not strange, as that is their favorite food. They once had one in their garden!

Kelowna is very dry. It rarely rains. Summers are usually dry and hot. Winters are cold. Most precipitation is in the form of snow. Which I think is rather odd. There is barely any wind. Kelowna has a lot of skiing parks around. Most famous is the big white. Hans is a very enthousiastic skier. It is allowed to cut your own firewood here.

I walked a little towards the village. It is funny, because everything here is done by car. Nobody walks around here. Everything is spread out. Cars make it all possible.

The Looman's will show me how to make your own beer. And I will show them (if I am lucky) how to make fire by friction. In a couple of days I am of to Whitehorse!
