Where I stayed
Ken Tomilson's place
I followed my feet, and somehow I found myself in Stanley park. This is the city park, but it is just as big as downtown Vancouver. The trees... well, they are magnificent. They are huge! At least twice as tall as they are in Holland. And guess what, a hundred years ago they were even taller, man cut the largest. I saw a bunch squirrels and they curiously came checking me out. And yesterday, I saw two bald eagles sitting high on top of a dead tree. My jaw just dropped, and their eerie calls resounded deep inside me.
The most beautiful moment was when the sun was setting. It had been hiding all day behind the clouds. But as it was dropping into the ocean, it was peeking below them. The first blue sky and sunlight in two days. Suddenly all of the damp forest was lit, and all the colours came alive. It stopped me dead in my tracks. The evergreen trees spread around with their slow drops falling, the black swampy area between them filled with branches, red and brown dead leaves and green firs. Between the trees, the sun was giving the damp air a golden glow.
