We finally left Tonsai - which was hard because of ideas of perfection - and headed to the east side before we head into Malaysia.
Just about the worst time of my life. The bus ride was at night, so we thought there would be no one on. Wrong. Overpacked, I had to stand for 4 hours next to a guy who hadn't heard personal hygeine was all the rage in the 1500s. And somehow everyone's breath was murder. MURDER! BURGER! NINJA!
So we got to Hat Yai about 12:30 at night, no where to stay. We get off to be bombarded by taxi drivers in our face, "Hey where you go?" When one was too much we tried to walk away, and that guy yelled at the ones we're walking to in thai, something of the equiv. "Hey don't give them a deal, they're fucked, so let's take em for what they've got!" It escalated and the taxi drivers even threatened a girl who was trying to help us that spoke thai and english and was informing us what they were saying. Madness. Then we slept in someones house, I wish I had pictures of this room. A cardboard box just about, but thankfully with a bolted door - we thought we were going to be raided.
Songkhla - our original destination - was a nice beach town, great seafood. I rented a motorcycle, and the area was great. The zoo we went to was hilarious: No staf anywhere, the cages (if there were any) were about 3 feet away and most animals you could feed. Something like this would never fly in the states.
