AAAAANnnnnnnd Reeeelax......Haaaaaaaaaaa

Oh My God ! this is living we could definitely get used to.

We arrived at the airport and took a taxi to the flagship JW Marriott and Marriott Beach Club Resort.  On entering the lobby we were greeted with friendly smiley faces, jasmine garlands and glasses of mint and lemon ice drink.....very yum. After quickly checking in, we then were chauffeur driven through the tropical gardens by golf buggy to our palatial pad that was to be our home for the next seven days. (Observe the video footage) 'WWWWWOOOOOOOOWWWEEEEEE. ahem er ....yes this will do i suppose (droll voice with one eyebrow cocked)....trying to look like we frequented this stature of vacation location....don't think we were tooo convincing though. Pat smoothly tipped the bell boy with a 100 Baht (1.50) noted handshake....smooooth..... and we settled in....well we jumped up and down and then rifled through everything to see how many freebies we got.

We spent many days sleeping, eating, sunbathing, swimming, slurping copious amounts of G'n'T in the pool, eating and sleeping. After a few days we discovered we had free entry to the gym, and so spent every other day there trying to lose some of the pounds we had gained from living it large.
This place is huge, it has 7 restaurants, 3 pools and a 2 mile unspoilt deserted beach, gym, deli shop, Spa massage and numerous bars. Paradise.

We decided that we would further treat our selves (honeymooners as we are) to a romantic candlelit sunset diner on the beach, just us no-one else.....truly magical...not a cloud in the sky and 7 courses washed down with a very nice bottle of red. 1.Duck liver pate with fresh bread, 2. salmon on rocket and beetroot salad with cream cheese and walnuts, 3. Prawn cocktail salad, 4. lime sorbet, 5. melt in the mouth steak, chicken, lamb and lobster with veg and sauces, 6. roasted banana with rum and raisin ice cream and finally 7. coffee and two very fat happy bellies. We had a little wine left when we had finished our meal so we waddled down the beach and gazed at the stars in the cloudless night sky.

The Deli made up picnics for those who wanted to venture up the beach for the day so we arranged one and off we toddled along the deserted beach armed with huge beach towels and bottles of water in the mid day sun!! Will we ever learn? After a few hours of strolling through sand Pat style ( this means going on a mission to find out what is round the corner way in the distance where the beach disappears out of sight, at a fast trekking pace) so our lovely stroll down the beach had turned into a sweaty exhausting blister producing mission. But a nice one all the same!
Guess what was round the corner?  Go on bet you can't .....yup more deserted beach!!
We stopped and found what little shade there was, and took a dip in the clear blue bath of sea that lay in front of us. We decided after a short while that it might be a wise choice to head back before it got dark and they sent out a search party. Half way back we decided to eat our beautifully Marriott standard prepared sandwiches (of which Nic's was now mush) and then returned as Nic had a massage booked for later that evening....which she now very much needed. Plenty of calories burned... no need for the gym today!

The end of a truly magical experience was upon us....check out time. We were now headed for Phi Phi island. It was a grey day and our taxi wasn't due for another 20 minutes so we headed down to the Deli for a coffee. We reminisced how wonderful our stay had been ....."we could check back in" ...."Can we afford it? "......pause and look at each other ...smile..."you cancel the cab, I'll pay for the coffee and meet you upstairs". After quickly scrambling about we were booked back in for 4 more days and decided it would be best just to take a day trip to Phi Phi islands instead.

After taking a very nice car to the harbour we boarded our boat and off to the islands we sped....sped being the operative word. We were aboard a very fast speed boat and it was not a smooth ride....so this is why they make you read the disclaimer before you board the boat and also why if you are elderly or have a heart complaint you are advised not to travel with them!!!
The islands were breathtaking and the water crystal clear, we threw bread into the water to watch tropical fish wrestle for it...amazing. We were quickly off the boat donning our snorkels and flippers and taking in the spectacular underwater activity, big fish little fish but no cardboard box! After a short while we washed up on Monkey island...why is it called Monkey island?...Well, because they have monkeys there of course. Time to go to the next island so off we sped. It has to be said that our favourite island was Phi Phi Ley which was the setting for the film The Beach starring Leonardo DiCaprio, sadly he wasn't there but standing where he probably did was just as good.

On our boat were a couple of Australian characters called Tamara and Billy. We arranged to meet with them for our last night in Phuket. They were staying in Patong an hour away from us....so lippy and dancing flip flops chosen we departed.
We started off relatively steady having a few cocktails by their hotel then moved on to Bang la Road! this road is famous for one reason...........Ladyboys! And it is quite difficult to find a genuine lady on this road. It is a wash with bright lights and bars all welcoming you in. This is not a place you want to venture alone or unwittingly! Luckily we had people with us who knew where to go and we ended up in the Black Cat bar. The owner likes to challenge his guests to a game of hammer and nail. All you have to do is take it in turns to hit the nail once into a piece of wood and the first one to hit the nail all the way in wins. If he wins you pay him 700 Baht, if he loses he buys everyone a drink. Simple i hear you say.....not quite. You have to hit the nail with the slim end of the hammer head...the one that is usually used to pull the nail out!  ...We played and played and played.....and lost! Good fun was had by all. As a result of letting her hair down and her new drinking partner forcing tequila down her throat Nic thought it would be a good idea to have a go at pole dancing....not a good move ......she split her trousers!!!! oooops. 4am and we eventually stumbled back to the hotel ...only to get up the next morning at 8am in order to pack. Not good not good at all.... still slightly drunk we packed in a fashion and then crawled to the lobby where we slept till our taxi picked us up at 1.30pm to take us to the airport. It took us 2 days to recover. Never again!! We mean it this time.
