I went "Blackwater rafting" in the caves near Waitomo which basically consisted of going down an underwater river in pitch blackness sat in a big inner tube - with a few water falls thrown in to make it more interesting!! It was actually really good fun, had to squeeze through some very tight gaps which was a bit worrying at times - not a lot of breathing space - and the jumps backwards off waterfalls when you couldn't see anything were a little scary but al good fun!
Waitomo itself is only a tiny little place in the middle of the countryside, there's just roling hills and farmland al round it - very picturesque.
