Today was moving day, time to take the rig to San Antonio. We filled up with gas and headed on our way. We were taking the scenic country route so that we could hit Salt Lick BB-Q for lunch. We already had the memory of the first BBQ in our minds from Dallas so we had high expectations already. They were soon blown from the depths of the ocean and met with bellies that were trying to find more room to fit in more food. The Salt Lick opens at 11am and we got there on the dot. The place packed out in minutes and we were lucky to get our orders in first. We all ordered the Ranch meal that was a little bit of everything. The Brisket was so full of flavour, and the sausage and turkey was moist and yummy. There were few words to describe how full we all were until we noticed the Pecan Pies on the windowsill. We had to try a slice, it was divine, full pieces of pecan with a delicious vanilla ice cream placed us in a Salt Lick heaven. We were lucky enough to have a doggy bag as there was no way I could fit that much protein into my belly, god knows I tried though.

From there we continued mowing the rig down the country site to San Antonio, a delightful city made famous for its river walk. The river walk is a stunning stretch of canals within the inner city, one story below the sidewalk. It has to be seen to be believed; it almost feels like you have gone down into Venice with its restaurants and shops lining the canals as it stretches through downtown San Antonio. We walked through all of the scoping out the good Mexican food and bad Mexican food. We met JD and Lisa on our travels who told us about a festival that would be starting the night, they gave us 2 free tickets just because they thought we were swell. People in America really are too lovely! We finally settled on an amazing restaurant that was serving guacamole that was made fresh in front of you. It was truly like being in heaven watching the little boats float past and the people humming by as we had our own personal chef prepare this delicious concoction of Avocado, lime, orange juice, tomato and onion. It was a lovely way to watch the sun go down.

The festival that we had been told about was next on the todo list so we ventured on to see what was going on. We were met with a big surprise at the entrance to Fiesta – The celebration of cultures and preservation of history festival. With more people than I had ever seen in my life packed into one place, it was like an outdoor convention with great food from all over the world, any type of drink you could imagine and great bands. It was San Antonio’s biggest festival and we happened to be there on opening night! We capped that of with a visit to SA sky tower which was a beautiful view. With more and more walking under the feet it was time to give them a rest as I shut the lid on this laptop. I cannot believe how lucky we have been to make all these festivals one after the other in different cities. We truly are ridiculously lucky to be able to go out and see the world. Who knows what tomorrow will bring?
