Biggest news today- saw my first monkey!! So cool. I am assuming it was a girl monkey as i got the usual reaction i get from girls - took one look at me....... and bolted up a tree!! Still another of lifes goals completed!

After a morning spent looking for games to play on the internet, went on a maddening hunt for guitar strings today. They broke a couple of weeks ago ( Have i really been here to say a couple of weeks ago!??) Ronali had told us of some place in Hambantota, but we wandered through the town looking for this place called the gift house which we could not find for the life of us. Finally found it. Quite a big shop which we walked past about 4 times!!! Asked hopefully "Do you sell guitar Strings?? Please say yes because if you don't I may cry.." "Toy Guitar??" asked the wee man obviously not understanding what i said. "No guitar strings" I say making those guitar movements with my hands, which i now realise probably made me look slightly mad more than anything." Ah! Guitar Strings! no.. said the man in the shop. "Rightyo", said I tears welling up in my eyes. Never been so disappointed in my life!! Will have to look in Galle tomorrow..

After recovering from that crushing disappointment, possibly the funniest moment happened today. Some of the people from the church arrived to get stuff from the school for the weekends festivities. We were covered in dirt from the walk we had just come back from and on seeing them get out of the 3 wheeler, Caroline screamed at the top of her voice " Church people!!!!" tidied one of the coffee tables quickly muttering about the place being clean and ran to the bathroom to clean up. In the 5 seconds this took, the 'church people' had arrived at the door to see me standing there trying to hold back laughter covered in dirt and sand. This coupled with the fact they have not got used to my norn irish accent yet let to a great conversation!!  I'm they think i am a right eedgit! Still got a job out of it though. Have to cut out 60 dove badges for the weekend!!
