For our last day it was an early start, as we had to hit the road to get back to London.
We took a different route from when we arrived in Scotland, which took us through a few small villages, and the ice and snow was certainly set in here – some of the houses we saw had huge icicles hanging from the eaves – many over a metre long, and one reached all the way to the ground! Coupled with the 1 to 2 foot deep snow, I couldn't help but think that winter would get old pretty fast up there! Unfortunately the bus windows were covered in water, ice and salt so I couldn’t get a decent photo of them.
We stopped at Gretna Green, a world famous (apparently, though I’d never heard of it) town, as back in the day you could get married at 16 in Scotland, so young couples from England would elope to the first town inside the Scottish border!
Aside from that, it was a long driving day, not helped by the blockages on the main motorways and snow and ice everywhere! We ended up arrived back in central London at about 9:30pm.
I had a great time up in Edinburgh; the only downside was that being a shorter trip, we didn’t really have time to get to know the other travellers like we did on the Scenic Scandi trip, but I still enjoyed and would recommend it.
