Onwards to Nordkapp! This is the northern most point of Norway, and of Europe, and was certainly worth the drive. After having our first sight of Reindeer in the morning, we saw loads of them this evening, often in large groups of maybe 20 or more. Unfortunately they aren't the most intelligent of creatures, and insisted on running down the middle of the road for a minute or two before walking off to the side...something we were to encounter many times throughout our travels.
At Nordkapp it was cold, and I mean COLD. To the point where some people said they thought
it was worse than the polar plunge...I don't think it was quite that bad, but it was definitely freezing! We watched a short movie in the visitor centre, then ventured out to the globe sculpture for some
photos. To my disapproval, it was cloudy when we arrived (despite the sky appearing cloud free when we left Olderfjord) so we didn't get to see the sun directly at midnight...but I don't care, as far as I'm concerned I saw it! It felt exactly like 4pm in the afternoon, which is what everyone in the group thought too.
After having a Lime Cider (never heard of them before, but it was pretty good!) we played a game of cricket out in the carpark...just because we could.
At 1:30am, with the bus half an hour late, we eventually began our return journey to Olderfjord. At about 3am we finally saw the sun shining through the clouds, so that was some consolation for not getting to see it at Nordkapp. We didn't arrive back until just before 4am...so it was
a long day!
