With Salt lake City a distant nightmare we arrived in San Francisco after a 16 hour bus journey from the hole, how they ever hosted the winter Olympics i'll never know!!

They say first impressions last! Well when the first place you see in a new city is a Greyhound bus stations you have to put those first impressions behind you and accept there's not going to be any red carpet, or even a friendly face....you just hope it's not going to have as many loonies as the previous station! When we arrived in S.F greyhound we tried to book our tickets to LA in advance while we were still at the station. As usual, the customer service and help we were given by the staff was excellent!! (note the sarcasm) What a inconvenience we must be with our strange accents and our outlandish requests for a ticket for a bus that doesn't leave that day, needless to say we had to go back the day we left.

Anyway better stop moaning might just end up stuck on a 16 hour bus journey with someone from S.L.C who's read the blog.

We arrived at our accommodation and were given a free upgrade to a private bathroom instead of a shared if we would be willing to put up with the noise of the bin lorry picking up the empty bottles from the local pubs every morning and night. We accepted and the ear plugs came in handy! The hotel was right in the middle of town in a perfect location and was really more like a hostel than hotel and had few permanent residents and the usual odd characters roaming the hallways. We must live a sheltered life in Perth because there are so many weird people we've come across in this trip.

The first day we went to the fishermans wharf and walked over to the Golden Gate Bridge and took some photo's. The weather was much more bearable than the Las Vegas desert heat so we took the opportunity to walk everywhere. We were hoping to go to Alcatraz but on trying to buy tickets we found out that it was booked out until the Tuesday and this was only Thursday and we were leaving on Saturday, so no escaping for us!!

The other days we went to Pier 39 which is the main tourist attraction a little like a mini Blackpool where we got a caricature done of the two of us. We also took a look around Chinatown and generally just walked miles and miles around what is a really beautiful city! I would just like to say thank you to the manager at the Park Hotel who was so helpful and friendly with us the whole time we were there. Proving that it is possible to happy in your job in America!

When we went to the bus station to leave we were befriended (an unwanted friend, pity you can't reject them like facebook) by a strange fella who was in the ticket line infront of us. He originally wanted to go to Seattle then decided to go to LA!! Then when he noticed us in the same waiting area thought that was enough reason to show us his passport and stare like we were Scottish aliens. I also noticed that he had all his worldly belongings in a little brown bag with his name on it, yep just like the ones you get fresh out of jail!!

Anyway we made it to LA okay, even after several attempts by said person to speak to us at the rest stops along the way. He looked rather sad as we got off in Hollywood and he had to stay on until downtown LA.

The hotel was perfect location for us, on Sunset Boulevard just 2 mins round the corner from Hollywood Bvd where the walk of fame, Kodak theater and all the other Hollywood sights are. Also across the road was a cheap clothes outlet store which we took full advantage of, and an I-HOP (international house of pancakes!!) which we really took advantage of!!

We bought tickets for the hop on, hop off tour bus tour which took us round Hollywood and Beverly Hills one day and downtown LA the next. Think i might just move to Beverly Hills soon, well anywhere that doesn't have telephone poles because they are unsightly is my kind of place!! We also went to Ripley's believe it or not, the Guinness world record museum and the worst waxwork museum you could ever imagine!! Believe it or not we even got a look in at Michael Jacksons star and managed to get a photo amongst all the crowds!! I wanted to lie beside it and ball my eyes out like everyone else, but strangely the tears just never came, what's wrong with me!!!

We leave LA and head out of USA for Canada, another new country!!

All rants aside we are both really still loving it and enjoying the adventure. So keep in touch and we'll keep writing.
