After Juliet headed off to Adelaide, I found a cheap hotel in the centre of Sydney.  It's not very glamorous, but it is very cheap.  After dropping the camper back on Friday, I walked around the city for a while before going to meet Natalie, who I used to work with a few years ago, for a drink.  I also met up with her and her boyfriend for lunch on Saturday in Bondi, where they both live.  Bondi is very cool, very surfy, not too pretentious, but there are people working out on the beach.  There's a word for people like that....!!  We went to Nat's apartment for a cup of tea (which was excellent!), her place is fantastic and has stunning views over the beach and city suburbs.  Also came across a huntsman spider in her place, I'm not kidding, this thing was the size of a small dog!  I could feel it looking at me!  I'm not scared of spiders, but I am scared of things that look like they could eat me in one bite!
Met Rob, Hayley's friend from Singapore, in Bondi in the afternoon, wandered around the beach and the headlands together, and stumbled upon a small park full of odd sculptures.  Met up with Nat again for dinner and drinks before giving in to exhaustion and coming back to the city to sleep.  Sunday morning is a bit cold and raining, not what I'd bargained for in Australia!  I'm in an internet cafe trying to figure out what to do with myself for the next three weeks....

Yesterday, Sunday 8th, I went for a wander around, and ended up in a street full of outdoor adventure type shops.  I couldn't resist, and bought myself a new North Face jacket, exactly the same as the one the filthy theiving bogans had off me up in Hervey Bay.  Given how expensive all that stuff seems to be here, it wasn't too bad really, and cheered me up no end.  Went to cinema in the evening and watched Couples Retreat. which was entertaining.  Today, Monday, I walked around the park near the opera house. It's been beautiful; blue skies and about 28 degrees.  After walking about for a bit I laid down on the grass, and was promptly set upon by a little sparrow!  It kept dive bombing me and attacking my head!  Bloody birds...   Then, walking back through the city this afternoon, I saw a man walking along, as casually as you like, with two goats on a leash.  In the middle of the city.  Goats.  On a leash.  In the city.  What the deuce?!

Bought a cheap ticket to Melbourne, leaving tomorrow afternoon.  From there I plan to get a ferry over to Tasmania.  It takes about 13 hours, but is a little cheaper than flying, and besides, boats are more fun!  Went for a look around some of Sydney's surrounding areas today, caught a ferry to Watsons Bay which is the entrance to Sydney harbour from the ocean, and is spectacularly beautiful and rugged.  Some of the houses up on the cliffs are incredible.  You get fantastic views of the city skyline from there.  While I was sat in a park admiring the view and enjoying the sun, a coach load of Korean tourists turned up to look at the same view.  Their guide was telling them things, and a few of them took great pleasure in translating it all into English for me!  They were really funny.  One lady shook my hand when they left; very formal!  The weather has been gorgeous again today, apparantly lots of south Australia is having unseasonably high temperatures these past couple of days.

So tonight is my last night in Sydney, and I'm kinda glad to be leaving really, cities aren't my thing.  I'm looking forward to getting my boots on and doing some proper exploring.  Also hope to hook up with Rob and Ness who live in Hobart, I met them on the trip to Fraser Island a few weeks ago.  I must email them now, while I remember....
