After a fabulous nites sleep in the Mercure Hotel in Karratha and via the supermarket for some more munchies, we headed on towards 80 Mile Beach. Drive there took us offroad again, with 10km dirt track to get to the camp site.
The caravan park is ok, and looks right onto the beach (all 80 miles of it alledgedly - we didn't try to find out ourselves!) Simply beautiful, and we got there in time for a glorious sunset. The evening was spent watching that sunset along with what seemed like the rest of the campsite population while the sky turned blood-red and the seaside wildlife started to explore - amazing little crabs everywhere - more chances for me to try and photograph the wildlife!
The campsite was actually not bad, but there's no camp kitchen here, so had to dig out our wee stove and make do! We're starting to get pretty adept at cooking all sorts of food, as long as it involves noodles or pasta...
Woke to more torrential rain, packing a wet tent, and negotiating the dirt track in our poor wee car. Managed to drive (sail?!?) it through the streams and pools that the road had become, and back to the main road (carwash urgently required!) In places the water was up past the wheel rims, but I was sticking close to a tow truck that was travelling the road in front of us - any problems and I'd've hit the horn straight away!
365km to get to Broome - here we come!
