Well, that's one week down already in Perth and I'm not quite sure where the time has gone... Alcohol probably doesn't help with the perception thing I guess!
Having tried our hand at snorkeling up the coast from Perth and boogie boarding on a waveless sea, we decided that a more active sport should be our next challenge. Squash it was, so with Jason, Sam, Chris and Phoebe we headed to the University courts and 1-1/2 hours of headless chicken impressions with a squash racquet... Somehow (due to lack of practice no doubt!) I managed to beat Jason soundly (8-2, not that I was keeping score!) although we both suffered minor injuries and a fair bit of muscle pain the following days!
The barbecue is getting loads of use as well (hence the 'snags' comment in the title - sausages to the uninitiated!) with the easy option being some sort of meat accompanied by loads of fresh chopped vegetables - excellent!
Thursday night is pool and beer at the Como Hotel (another of the many Perth suburbs!) with the usual suspects - I blamed the small tables and strange Auzzie rules for my poor performance (well I had to have some excuse for managing to give 2 shots away almost every turn!)
We've also got the Scotland Ireland game to look forward to on Saturday, probably to be watched in Mustangs - a very salubrious (honest!) nightclub in Northbridge... It's on at about 1130pm over here (I think!) so kilts will be worn with rugby jerseys to cheer the lads along. After beating the English and the French, we can surely put up a good show against the Irish, hopefully, possibly, maybe?!? Hmmm...
On a positive, progressive and forward moving kinda note, I've managed to get myself a vehicle, have been looking at a fair few houses and have managed to arrange a couple of interviews in the time that I've been here - it's not all been beaches and pubs!
I'm really enjoying it all, missing Mum and Dad lots and of course everyone else back home, but the thought of 12 inches of snow causing road havoc doesn't really make me wish I could head straight back! Heh, heh, heh...
We just have to cope with fighting through several inches of soft sand at the beach while sipping fruit smoothies, enjoying the light breeze off the Indian Ocean and letting the water occasionally cool off our feet. Enough of that - don't want to make you too jealous!
Hopefully the next update will include good news on the housing and job fronts - keep those fingers crossed for me!
