Good Evening Friends and Family.

Kim here.

Wild horses (nor any number of Ingas), could not have stopped us from moving over to the Greenville today.  Really enjoyable to be settling into a non-clinical setting, but knowing medical help and support is 30 seconds away:~)  (and really, the hospital stay was really quite enjoyable too).

It's almost midnight here and we've just left part of the larger (returning-to-hotel-post-procedure) Canadian group after being together for a late supper.

After being discharged mid-morning, Doc & I ventured out a few kilometers by Taxi, settling on people watching in the square of the "National Palace of Culture" for several hours.  (The perimeter sporting several open-air beer tents - interestingly bustling with patrons by 1 pm :~)  Two very large, very cold beer cost the equivalence of about $2.80 CDN, for BOTH beer:). I tell you - this city/country may very well be the next 'hot' tourist destination...they haven't figured out that we visitors would easily pay double for anything commercial...

So, Doc and I have decided to retire here immediately.

The skies are blue and the heat wonderfully intense - mostly because Doc realized he spent many hours in the heat today - without the ill effects he is used to.  Heat has definitely not been his friend for the past decade+.  It was a great first day out of the hospital zone :~)

Back for a nap and between supper conversations, we helped plan a party for us all tomorrow night here in the hotel.  The level of connection at a fellowship level continues to increase - and many others here have now connected who Doc is - through media stories in their home communities.  Inspiration has exploded.  Doc is clearly leading through his transparency.  I am guessing that it's not something he would consciously choose, but him becoming an unlikely poster-boy has resulted in hope for so many.

This Blog just totaled 1003 hits moments ago!  That's a lot of interest and energy.  I added a few pictures from our Fundraisers at Tumblers a week or so back... does anyone have any pictures of that night with Doc in them?

Forward them to me PLEASE     kimkimsutherland@gmail.com            for uploading to here.  Thanks for any offered!

Thinking of you all.

Hello, Doc here.  Ok everyone I have left the hospital and had a shower!  ...and changed my clothes!  I'm back to being my runway model self!!!

I'm experiencing the same changes talked about earlier and decided to try the walking in 30C temp as described a few hours earlier.  I did experience my first tremor this evening and my right hand went numb for a few minutes ... but it went away.  Remember this will take time!!

Thank you all for your well wishes and you are not the only ones with tears welling up.  I find myself not emotional by my own progress/changes but by your comments.  I think maybe we have all let our guard(s) down and have all become a little more real/vulnerable.  Whatever it is the emperor really doesn't have any clothes.

And I'm happy to have you along on this adventure.  Whoop whoop, MS party tomorrow night!!!  Well from 6 to 9 pm anyways!

Sounds like a great day guys!! Awesome!

One question though...did you have stents (sp??) put in your jugglars too or just the angioplasty?? Or is that the same thing???

Have a fantastic day tomorrow and rest of trip!

Hi Shelley. No stents just angioplasts. My veins were still open the next morning so that was the test. Sadly some people have their veins re-stenous (collapse) but it has only been one, while we have been here. Thanks for asking. Still owe you a wedding present!

Kim mentioned there have been 1003 hits to the bog - I think at least 200 are mine! I've been a bit obsessed with checking the progress. I've laughed, I've cried - it's better than the best summer blockbuster movie! We are SO happy for you, Doc!!!!

Tania on

That is just great. So happy for you Doc.

How is the recruitment/courting of the Street Culture Surgeons coming along? Bev says this is so heart warming and entertaining you should take this show on the road. lol.

Hey fellas, I spoke with Jolene up at Ness yesterday while Susan and I were cruising around in the little tin boat and she was so overwhelmed that she could hardly talk through the tears of joy! We are so happy to have been a part of this adventure. Let's go and help as many more as we can!

What are our post-adventure party plans? Wrap-up in Nokomis?
Love to both of you again! David and Jolene

The debate over hear is really picking up pace. My contribution on the Globe and Mail's site follows:

7/30/2010 1:13:30 PM
When do all these nay-sayers get off their butts and do something positive. Seems they stand in the background and critisize and instill fears rather than look around and see whats happening. I have no respect left for the medical community that stands in the way of the Liberation treatments. They are only protecting their own pocketbooks as this treatment is going to eliminate the necessity for the MS patients being reliant on their physicians, neurologists, pharmaceuticals, etc. There should be a huge class action against these nay-sayers and doubters. They stand IN THE WAY of improved healthy living of those patients that can't afford to go out of country for this treatment. One-hundred percent of patients who have the liberation treatment experience a positive outcome, and often a remarkable outcome. To the Canadian medical community, I say back off and shut up or get on board and start helping these long suffering patients! To the MS Society that I have contributed to so generously in the past, I say get on board and quit with the non-supportive speak that you are espousing right now and start to support the HOPE that this surgery gives. You've seen the last dollar I'll be sending your way until you CHANGE your ways! We are not blind, we are not stupid, WE SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING!! Your negative response is not supported by the facts.

bravo well said, Darryl

where are you two,the Ingas finally got you didn't they.

bidet confused girl on

Go Darryl!! I agree 100 percent as I assume everyone else does who is reading this blog, how can these facts be ignored. I think a W5 episode would be a great way to get the story out and really make the general public see what we have seen. I smell a fishy coverup and just plain ignorance, why are these doctors and medical professional here not striking until the procedure is in place and offered to anyone who may benefit from it. A day procedure to give relief from decades of symptoms.. and we cant OFFER it.

On a happy note, I have a really good vibe about this situation... lol.
I think the first steps have already been made,

See u soon

Darryl on

Wow, no updates today? Hope that means you guys are out enjoying the sites and taking in the culture. When do you depart for the Netherlands? Doc, have you noticed more changes, getting your walking legs back? Hope all is well, if it's not, you're on your own!

Rob Middleton on

You're driving me nuts with this...I mean, I love ya and everything...always have and always will...but I (by the traditional way of the Pylon) am forced to mock you...even in these circumstances...so, I throw you this softball....Why are you always wearing the same shirt in every photo?
And, Bulgaria's almost Asia...I could cancel on Guy and give you his room...plenty of space over here....

Holy shizz - how do I get one of those wicked awesome shirts????
I hear that Doc is running for PM...

ps - Doc, I shot one of the heart stent operations for CTV News a few years ago. I know I wouldn't want a creepy camera guy like me lurking in the background during an important operation. Who knows what kinda germs a guy like that would have...
