the ducks are breaking the surface of the pea soup like lake with their effortless gliding whilst kookaburas sing their spooky song from the branches above and a chorus of unseen bugs sing from amongst the Jurassic style ferns all with tense curled fronds, a pack of bright coloured parrots keep flying from each canopy of one eucalyptus tree to another one loudly alerting their presence each time and huge golden backed ants keep crawling across my computer. Quite tropical here in Queensland.
I had just spent a week in Maroochydore, a very laid back surf town where for all but one day the surf was way too big due to a storm, even the good guys were not going out so a few face slapping sessions at the wake boarding lake and drinking wine in the evenings with the various characters and beautiful people that were all on their own passage to somewhere else was the agenda for the week, with some half hearted job searching thrown in.
I then returned back to Brisbane for a few days and as well as the highlight of seeing the rather amusing dead duo of a monitor lizard which had tried to unsuccessfully eat a echinidea( porcupine type animal) and ending up with the spikes killing it with half the echinidia down its throat, I also learnt about the incredibly sad history of the original inhabitants of this land and how as well as almost destroying this culture lots of species of creatures are also in danger of becoming just another exhibit in the rather informative museum so with a unbalanced sense of both sadness and amusement I caught up with Dan who is opening up a groovy restaurant in the city and over a few cold coopers caught up on whats been happening since the days we worked on Creole, realising that it was probably one of the best times we had had, free booze, good friends and a beautiful old classic yacht we called home and of course not forgetting the porn poker and pizza nights.
