Salta Rafting

Having spent an evening in Salta, we packed up and headed out into the countryside to camp by a river at a place called Salta rafting.  Surrounded by forest covered mountains, it was a pretty spectacular setting.  We had booked to go rafting in the morning and three boats set off down the river straight from the campsite.  The rapids were only grade three so very tame but we had a great laugh as our guides took us down them spinning 360.  We also had a few engineered capsizes which were most welcome in the 35 heat!  We finished up by all piling into the water and floating down feet first in the current.
It was then back to camp (not in the rafts!) and a couple of hours siesta before the zip wire adventure, called "flyingfox".  We thought it would be a few runs from tree to tree, but we got a shock when the first run was nearly 400m long across a river gorge at a height of about 150m!  We were strapped into a harness and then attached to the wire by a pulley so we sat under the wire and zipped across.  Braking was done by gripping the wire with special leather padded gloves - luckily there were guides at the other side to catch us if we were not strong enough.  We did a total of 9 runs of varying lengths and heights, the longest being 500m and the last three going back and forwards across the river before dropping us into the campsite.  Mark also did one where he was strapped facing forwards in a superman position!
In the evening we had a massive asado (bbq) of steak, sausage and more steak.
