The Slovinians have a love of water parks and so we decided to immerse ourselves in their culture and their water and visit a couple. We dressed it up as an opportunity to get some bike rides in as well in the eastern part of the country but we did spend a good amount of time sliding down tubes!

First stop was Ptuj which when you pronounce it sounds like you are spitting. The village is built on a hill beside a river and is beautiful. We spent an evening in the old town and had what is possibly the best pizza we have ever had. Mexican extra can not be described as a local dish but it was certainly a hit with us!

The water park just out of town had all manner of tubes, the highlights being a corkscrew affair, a double rubber ring tube and something that gave Rebecca mild whiplash which involved being shot off a slide onto a lower stretch of plastic sheeting. It wasn't elegant but it was fun! We took to timing ourselves, trying to beat our personal best!

After a day here we moved on to Podčetrtek (which is as unpronounceable as it looks) and here we did a couple of good bike rides up into the surrounding hills. The marked trails were excellent and on Saturday we did a 15km ride and on Sunday we did a 30km ride. Mark had a close encounter with a buzzard when he tore round a corner to find it sun bathing on the track - I am not sure who was more startled.

After more fun on another set of slides, culminating in the "Kamikazze" run we decided to head back west to Bled.
