OK so we cracked after less than 2 weeks into the camping expedition and checked into a hotel of faded grandeur with views to die for. We originally went for a sundowner on the terrace on Sunday evening and the location was so amazing that we asked at reception if they had any rooms for the next night and they did! The hotel is just outside a small village called Piana which sits on a promentary in the gulf of Porto. We spent Monday morning walking in the Calanches looking at the strange rock formations. In the afternoon, a norrow winding road took us down to a lovely, small cove and beach below Piana where we spent a few hours swimming and jumping off the rocks. We smuggled some food into the hotel and spent the evening eating and drinking on the balcony watching the sun go down.
An early morning the next day ready for our attempt on the Cap D'Orto (1300m) which the guide book said we should not attempt without further advice. 3 hours later and after some awesome rock scrambling we were on the top taking in the views of the sea to the East and further mountain ranges to the West. We planned to spend the afternoon on the beach again but when we got there later in the afternoon, the waves were massive. We camped that evening in the mountains just outside Evisa.
We are now in Corte and planning some mountain biking and climbing.
