Highlights

We only stayed for one day! Kuta is very touristy and might be great if your on a package holiday but not great if your backpackers like us! Plus there were too many Aussies!

Lowlights

Getting from Java to Bali.
We left Ijen at 8.30am in our tired run down minivan (without aircon!) and made it to the ferry port about 12. Here we endured an hour of Indonesia's finest karoke whilst cruising between Java and Bali. Once in Bali we found our 'tourist bus' had turned into a local bus. We got squeezed in the front and began our sweaty 3 hour bus journey to Denpasar. We passed beautiful rice fields and local villages but couldn't fully appreciate the view as it was so hot in the bus. To make things worse half way through the driver decided to put some music dvd on which was awful. At last we made it, only to realise we had been dropped off 10km outside of Denpasar! We then just gave up and took a taxi to Kuta 45 minutes away. After our long journey we were pretty knackered but it still continued with us getting rejected again and again by hostels. Half hour walk later we found a decent one for a good price and settled in for the night.

Dodgy food.
We decided to eat in a nice looking Greek restaurant which was cheap and busy the night before. We ordered a chicken wrap and chicken kebab. Mark's chicken wrap came out first and had wolfed it down before mine had even arrived they took so long over it. Half way through eating my kebab, I realised the chicken was still raw in the middle, not good! The wrap was probably raw as well and we complained only to get a small discount and a free (meatless) salad. It's pretty ironic how of all the cheap places we've eaten at so far in our travels, it's here in the most touristy place we've been served dodgy food.
