Arrived late to the mountains north of San Jose, after driving through the capital, buying our ticket home and scoffed a drive thru burger king. Not proud to have swooped so low and eaten such garbage but it tasted moderately ok!

Arrived back at the log cabin at 2200m, where we stayed prior to our excersion to the south, lit the fire, enjoyed the cold air and opened the bar. We have invested in a portable bar, aka, a coolbox with several spirits, beers and mixers to make the harsh travel conditions bearable. Emma whipped up a typically delicious offering from shoddy ingrediants, and I praised her on her success at satisfying my curry need. Not like anything i´ve tasted before but hit the spot!

Rose at a spritely hour, for a change and headed up the nearby volcano of Poas. The gentle clinb to the edge of the crater allowed us time to digest our breakfast before peering into the crater below. A couple of km across, with a lake inside, and gasses emitted from fumeroles in the crater. Fabulous views of the surrounding valleys greeted us. After a few mintues the sulphur was overwelming and we headed down to another extinct crater, stolling gently back to the car. This took us through more cloud forest, with a multitude of hummingbirds, squirrels and the usual hawks and vultures.

Tried to climb another one the next day but the road was impassable 5km from the end. 2-3 foot boulders in the road and the 4x4 wasn´t man enough to get over then. After breaking into it, causing loads of scratches and getting 4" metal spike in the tyre, the bill is mounting and I was keen to keep it down! We beat a retreat, rather annoyed at being defeated by the road.
