Today is my first day in the chair, visiting with children and others as Santa. I'm anxious to get to work and put on the costume and hair – I just hope it’s not too warm! Tomorrow we are supposed to have lots of rain so who knows what will happen then!

I went to lunch on Sunday with my friend, Yoshi Hanabusa who I have known since the first year. He took me to a great buffet with lots of Japanese foods. Don’t ask me what I ate because I have no idea what some of the things were! I know there was some curry, some egg dish (with things in it???), a pork and apple dish (sort of American) and yummy Japanese desserts which are typically less sweet than ours. When he drove me home he gave me a beautifully framed Samurai sword and knife set with lots of things that I have to research to find out what they are and what the labels say! I am putting a picture of it up so you can see it. I have NO idea how I’m going to get it home!!

Just got home from my first day in the chair. It was great fun to be back. It was a beautiful day, around 70 degrees. The air was still and the humidity was higher than normal. That means sweating Santas! Our wigs, beards, and suits were soaked by the end of the day! We had a great time seeing old and new faces. Our Japanese friends are always surprised when we remember them. Already the lines are approaching 3 and a half hours wait time…that will only increase as the season goes on.

After work the other guys, and one of the ladies joined me for dinner with the Mano family. Those of you who have followed my adventures in years past know that they have a restaurant on the first floor of their home. They serve Shabu-Shabu style. There are large electric pots on the table with boiling water or broth. Then thinly sliced carrots, enoki mushrooms, and bokchoy cabbage are served ready to put in the pot. After that comes very thin sliced frozen meat, usually beef. You are to take the meat slices and swish it around in the boiling pot – shabu-shabu is Japanese for swishing. There are also two dipping sauces, Ponzu (made of soy and citrus) and Sesame (made of sesame, if you can imagine!). These sauces flavor and cool down your veggies and meat. It’s delicious and great fun to do with friends.

We had a great time visiting with the Mano family and they seemed thrilled to have us come to see them and eat at their restaurant. Check out the pictures!

Tomorrow promises a big rain storm…who knows if we will get to go out or not, I’ll let you know!

Ship the swords back to your house so you don't have to deal with airports, etc. Fed Ex it baby!

I suggest not trying to carry on the sword, I don't know about Japan but the TSA here in the states frowns on things like that.

I'm glad you're having a good time. It sure is nice to know Santa Claus.
