It was a beautiful September day as we drove north to Lewisburg.  We took the back roads thru Adams Country in Pennsylvania.  The hills were beckoning and the autumn fruit harvest was ready to be picked and made into applesauce, etc.

The first stop was Lake Tobias Wildlife Park just north of Harrisburg, PA. Since 1965 Lake Tobias Wildlife Park has been operating with its wild, exotic animals and adventure-seeking safari tours. Nestled in the quiet countryside, Lake Tobias has animals, reptiles and birds from around the world.

We took the safari tour which rolls throught the park acres and stops at various places to view the animals.  Some of the animals are VERY friendly and try to come up the tour bus steps.  All seats are open air and there is plenty of opportunity to take photos.  It's nice to see a large space for the park animals to roam and play

Within the park are closed in pens for large animals like bears, tigers, and zebras.  It is still difficult to see the animals in an enclosed area and not just roaming free in the wild  But at least here the animals do have a larger home than in a zoo.  We spent about 3 hours taking it all in and ended the visit in the petting zoo with all the other kids!

One of our favorite "local" places to visit and stay is Country Cupboard in Lewisburg, PA.  They have lodging, a great restaurant, shops, a bakery and gardens.  The shops are extensive. If you go be sure to allow a few hours to have a meal and browse through the shopping areas.  We had lunch/dinner here and stayed in the attached Best Western. The next morning we enjoyed their famous warm homemade cinimmon buns before starting our westward drive..
