We got a ferry/bus combo from Koh Samui to Krabi on the West coast of Thailand. I'll probably sound like a grumpy old woman with this statement but our bus was full of annoying Irish blokes going to Phuket and it made me really happy I wasn't going there. We arrived in an altogether smaller contingent of 5 people in Krabi late that evening and got really nice accommodation in a family-run place (ie. The wife runs everything and the husband does the heavy duty stuff).

That night we went to the local market and had a ridiculously cheap dinner for Euro1.20 for both of us and went to a few bars after - not too many though because we were heading off on the ferry the next day to Koh Phi Phi.

We went for a walk around Krabi the next day before the ferry to see it in daylight when we got caught in a massive thunder storm. We had to run back to our accommodation in it or we would miss our ferry pick-up. Luckily we still had our plastic ponchos from Vietnam in our bags so we were able to use them for some shelter. We waited in the reception area for about 20 mins while the storm raged on. It rained so much in those 20 mins that when our transfer to the ferry terminal turned up we had to wade out in water that was half way up my calves!

The ferry still ran in that weather and our bags got soaked on the crossing to Koh Phi Phi because they were packed out on the deck. The crossing was very choppy but it was a better boat than the ones we used on the East coast islands so it was easier to handle.
