Trying to whip Italy into a frenzy!
After being invited to sit in at the council chambers where Brenda and Jeroen formally requested to be married, we drank some wine at the pub/cafe where Don Matteo is filmed. Sadly no Terrence Hill, as I would have loved to have a picture with the man with the blue-est eyes on TV.

The evening before the wedding after all the guests arrived, we all had Italian pizza together. Mind you, I'll never have pizza again in Sydney. I never liked pizza. This was pizza! It was luscious. As almost all guests were young, not necessarily married, but young and coupled up they had procreated… All up 55 guests and 18 of those were children under 6. Glad I like kids! Babies, toddlers and young children galore. Was nice to catch up with some old acquaintances I hadn't seen in 15 years. Conversation ranged from the silly to very serious as we are all older and hopefully wiser and all with experiences, sometimes good and sometimes sad.

For the wedding, rain was predicted… We were all hoping the rain would hold off but apparently rain on your wedding day brings good luck in Italy. Luckily I am a skeptic and don't adhere to such nonsense steeped in superstition!

I would be a witness for Brenda and feel very privileged that I was invited. After driving to Gubbio, we all took place in the beautiful council chambers overlooking the Piazza. The ceremony was lovely, all in Italian, translated by Jeroen's brother in Dutch. Once again, feel honoured I was able be a witness…

After the wedding, we had lunch, poolside, and it was sunny, hot and delicious. Naptime for kids and old people, while the people of intermediate age played in the water, chatted, drank wine and had general fun… Apertivo's and then dinner. I won't bore you with details (Dr. Rachael has told me to be brief and to the point and I always do what she says as she knows far more about blogging than I do) The evening concluded with a huge, think Queensland torrential rain and thunderstorm. The whole place flooded and the last people standing got soaked…

Oh as a postscript. I have not found aubergineman yet but I have found a Giovanni (who gave me a cigar) and Maurizio…

Being here in Italy reminds me why I love Australia. I love Sydney, the people in it and my life.
